Demo – Chocolate Factory Redesign 2
REDESIGN OF THE OLD CHOCOLATE FACTORY WEBSITE
These options explore different possibilities of Layout/Logo Title/Visual Theme. One issue is that the web address is not the same as the name of the site. (url is chicagomusicrehearsal.com – great for google searches but might be confusing to the user.) Some options include the url as a part of the logo/masthead. The goal is to find something that best represents who they are and what they do. This is the state of progress in the design of the midterm project after completion of assignments 1, 2, and 3 but before image slicing/production.
The first example is an option with no divisions/blocks/boxes. It is simpler and cleaner than the other options.
The next option has a block at the top integrating logo title, nav and potential photo imagery. This logo type says chocolate, bold, a bit retro but needs some edge to fit rock music. The coneptual direction was to be more 60’s nouveau rock, so i went on to the next option to bring this in. The nouveau 60’s feel comes through better in the revised option (font: Copal). Note other changes to color and contrast.
The research i did for “rockabilly” and “punk” showed that contrasts are very stark: black, white, red and grey. The type treatment here is accomplished with duplicate layers and different layer style settings for fill and stroke. This can be done with almost any type font but this free font called “iNked God” seemed to fit the concept well. I would need to tweek aspects of readability before using it though.
The other concept that may have the most potential to fit the company and clients is the “industrial” theme. This could be anything from a historic or vintage look to something contemporary. Here are to variations of a layout with different logo type treatments and bg colors. The second one has the grunge type (fuel pro) and black background for a tougher/bolder look. The first one uses unmodified helvetica neue bold for a cleaner look.
These last two options incoporate a background image with bricks. The building is in fact an old brick building and brick walls are visible in the studio photos. This lends some identity and also a kind gritty toughness that supports the rock music attitude. The first one is aiming toward punk/rockabilly (have not worked out an ideal logotype design for this one yet). The second one is seeking to be a combination of industrial/vintage/contemporary. The emblem may be in competition too much with the logotype, but it does add some interest and identity with the initials “CFS”.
